Originally an ancient market town built as a Norman 'new town' at the end of the 11th Century, Petersfield is now a vibrant place for shopping and eating out. Set in the glorious countryside of the South Downs National Park, it provides the perfect focal point for exploring on two wheels. Choose from nine individual route maps around Petersfield and the surrounding countryside. Off road cycle trails in Hampshire East: Bordon - This is a demanding 16 mile trail that takes you from Alice Holt Forest along bridleways and roads, through Bordon to Oakhanger, passing Shortheath Common and on towards Binsted, before returning back to Alice Holt Forest. Cheesefoot Head - This 19 mile trail is characterised by the chalkland scenery of Winchester and uses the South Downs Way for much of its outward leg before an unforgettable return across Stephen’s Castle and Fawley Downs. East Meon - A challenging 10 Miles following the downs of Hampshire. Stunning views from Butser Hill. Hayling Billy - This easy 5 mile trail uses the Hayling Billy Coastal Path which runs along the west coast of Hayling Island. Horndean - A moderate 14 mile ‘town and country’ trail which joins Denmead, Cowplain, Horndean, Catherington and Clanfield with the surrounding countryside. Meon Valley Trail - Running between Wickham and West Meon, this disused railway track provides 10 miles of safe and flat surface for all the family. Petersfield - One of the hardest trails! It explores 15 miles of the countryside to the north of Petersfield, including Stoner Hill, Little Switzerland and Hawkley village. The climbs are very challenging, but reveal some spectacular scenery. Queen Elizabeth - A pleasant 10 mile family ride over dramatic downlands and through the rich and beautiful scenery of this part of the South Downs. The ride is centred within the country park. The short cut trail is ideal for families with small children. Staunton Country Park - This easy 2.6 mile trail is predominately off road through woodland and open country.

The New Forest is a fantastic place for cycling with miles and miles of traffic free off-road tracks leading you right into the heart of the forest with few hills to worry about, so come and discover it for yourself. You can choose from six individual route maps across the National Park Off road cycle trails in Hampshire South: Brockenhurst - 10.5 mile easy cycle trail is within the New Forest National Park and follows Forestry Commission signed cycle tracks. Fordingbridge - A 21 mile long tough, technical route north of the New Forest which circles the village of Rockbourne with its famous Roman villa. Fritham - Slightly shorter at 17 miles, but still rated as strenuous, this cycle trail is within the New Forest National Park and follows Forestry Commission off-road cycle tracks and narrow roads. Hawkhill Inclosure - 10.5 miles long, this easy cycle trail is within the New Forest National Park and follows Forestry Commission signed cycle tracks. Lepe - An easy-going, 9 mile trail on the lanes and rights of way surrounding Lepe and Blackfield on the edge of the New Forest. Lymington Station - 14 miles long, this moderate difficulty trail takes you from the heart of Lymington along roads out in to the New Forest following rights of way with views out to the Solent.

Jump on your bike and explore Jane Austen country and the home of the famous Watercress Line railway. The rolling countryside around Alton has some picturesque villages and will provide a great backdrop to your exploration of the area. Choose from nine individual route maps around Alton and the surrounding countryside. Off road cycle trails in Hampshire North: Abbotstone Down - This 18 mile moderate difficulty route commences from Abbotstone Down, and follows both ‘The Ox Drove Way’ and ‘Wayfarers Walk’ for part of its length. Rolling chalk hills and bluebell woods abound. Alton - 10 miles long and rated as 'moderate', this trail is easily accessible from Alton or Four Marks. It uses tracks through Chawton Park Wood and continues to Bentworth village. Undulating tracks lead the trail through Wivelrod, Beech, Ackender Wood and the outskirts of Alton. Basingstoke - 17 miles long but one of the less demanding routes, easily accessible from Basingstoke. Journeys through a typical Hampshire farm landscape, gently undulating in places and passing near the source of the River Test. Blackwater Valley - An easy 7.8 miles, fairly flat route that takes you through this hidden secret of the Black Water River. Ellisfield - 13 miles long, this trail is largely off road, using tracks through woods and fields of mid-Hampshire. There are a couple of gentle climbs, but overall it is not too demanding. Liphook - A 9 mile circular trail around Liphook which explores the woods at Ludshott Common and Woolmer Forest, as well as the villages of Bramshott and Conford. Vernham - 23 Miles long and strenuous, this hilly route, mainly on hard flint and gravel tracks in the northwest of the county, passes through several picturesque villages. North of Ibthorpe, there are spectacular views across Faccombe Down. Watership Down - An invigorating 17 mile ride which takes in some of Hampshire’s finest scenery. The route begins on a quiet country lane followed by a challenging off-road climb and continues along the ridge of Watership Down. Whitchurch - 23 mile challenging trail covering many of the places that were an inspiration for Richard Adams’ ‘Watership Down’. Stunning views from Woodcott Down and Ladle Hill contrast with the picturesque Hampshire villages of St. Mary Bourne and Binley.

The former seat of King Alfred the Great, Winchester is a city steeped in history as England's ancient capital. This medieval city and its surrounding countryside demand to be explored – venture out to see Hampshire’s idyllic villages and the fabulous rolling countryside of the South Downs National Park. You can choose from nine individual route maps across the area. Off road cycle trails in Hampshire West: Candovers - A 16 mile easy-going trail which uses part of the Wayfarer’s Walk and takes in the villages of East Stratton and Woodmancott. Danebury - A strenuous 24 miles that takes in some of Hampshire’s finest scenery, joining easy sections of the Test Way with the steeper gradients of the Broughton Downs. A wide variety of villages provide additional interest including Stockbridge, Longstock and The Wallops. Farley Mount - Only 14 miles long but still a challenging route, this trail travels through the small hamlets of Farley, Ashley and the Sombornes, returning via Sparsholt and Dean. Micheldever Station - 19.5 Miles and rated as 'moderate', start from Micheldever Station and cycle anti-clockwise along country roads and open countryside. Sparsholt - Long at 25 miles but relatively easy cycling, this trail is easily accessible from Winchester. It takes you through gently undulating roads and rough tracks across both wooded and open country. A number of interesting villages may be visited - Wonston on the banks of the River Dever is particularly striking. Test Way - Running between Stonymarsh and Stockbridge, this disused railway track provides a safe and flat surface for cycling making it particularly suitable for families with children - up to 5 miles each way. The Ox Drove - 25 mile strenuous cross country trail which uses part of the Ox Drove Way, once a drove route for cattle. Westwood - 3.5 miles easy-going circular route following forest tracks and a bridleway. Winchester- 26 miles long, this demanding and dramatic trail follows part of the ‘South Downs Way’, dropping into Winchester and continuing north out to Micheldever Wood.
